“The worst 4 star hotel I EVER booked! So many incident in such a short period. It started with the food selection and drinks being bland and watered down. I never had to add so much salt in order for the food to taste somewhat manageable to eat. The lunch and dinner section was down right disrespectful. I wish I made reservation for restaurants outside the resort. The decent restaurant they had you have to pay $15pp if you are not a exclusive member. I waited a hour to go to the grill house and everyone after me was seated first, I complained to management and was told it was no big deal. I complained to front desk and they was not eager to help at all. You pay for what you get l wish I would’ve booked another resort. I stayed with the same brand in the Dominican Republic and was satisfied, but after this I will not book with them again. Our room flooded with water which someone has slipped and nothing was done to resolved the issue. we was told they was booked at 100% capacity but offered another room to us the last night by this time we didn’t care we was ready to go! We was on the 3 rd floor and they have NO elevators so we didn’t want to move anything unless it was to the airport to leave this monstrosity of a hotel. Never Again”

“Estive 15 dias no hotel, em junho 2021. A comida é muito ruim, sou vegetariana, nao tem opcao nenhuma. Nos restaurantes a la carte, os chefs só sabem fazer macarrão para quem não carne. A fila para o a la carte começa às 18:00, absurdo jantar às 18. Se for mais tarde tem fila de espera de 2hs. Por quê não dão opcao de reserva?? A opçao all inclusive é péssima. Comida na piscina é hot dog, hamburguer ou crepe. Não tem opção de comida saudavel no hotel. Falta no all inclusive frutas, yogurte, sanduiche, cafe, petiscos na piscina. Fraquerrimo. Serviço all inclusive uma enganação e termina às 17. A internet no meu quarto não funcionava. Nao tem guarda-chuva nos quartos para se locomover pelo hotel. Os funcionarios tratam os brasileiros muito mal e o serviço nos restaurantes é péssimo e devagar. Esperava muito mais desse hotel, pela propaganda na internet e pelo preço.”

Desde la llegada al hotel hasta nuestro último día la atención fue excelente. Ambientes muy cómodos, amplios y especiales. Buena comida, bebidas. Los restaurantes a la carta son todos deliciosos. Orden en cada espacio, cuartos maravillosos, me encantó la piscina y la playa.

Such a beautiful place to stay with lots of plants and animals. It is more of a smaller scale resort, but that’s what I loved about it; it has a relaxed feel. We met so many interesting people (guests and employees) and most working there love their job and are having a great time interacting with the guests. Everything (restaurants, buffet, mini convenience store, disco, coffee shop, pool, spa) is located within the resort and is quick walk (5-10min). I would recommend having a room closer to the pool/ocean as that saves even more time getting to and from the room to the water if you want to spend most of your time on the beach. The lobby is also beautiful, and the excursions suggested to us ended up being AMAZING. Loved being able to walk on/hang out on the beach at night! Overall, my family had a great time here and hopefully will be back! Come here if you want a resort that is removed from the spring break crowd! (4 stars because there is no hot tub and we wished the pool was open later! Also occasionally some employees seemed bothered/annoyed for no reason, but most were friendly and everything else was really great!)

I am an ETC member, I do not understand why a regular room is even an option for us (no more options available). Worse hotel I have ever stayed. I booked it not knowing the mistake I was making. I was trusting ETC judgment on the rooms. The regular rooms are “updated” BUT there are still in bad conditions. The bed is very uncomfortable, the infrastructure of the building is really old, water all over the floor when taking a shower, there is a lot of seaweed bc they only clean the beach one time a day and the food is really bad. The staff can’t upgrade the room because they overbooked the hotel. Very disappointed with the hotel and of course ETC.

Estuve con mi marido y mi hijo en noviembre, las instalaciones y decoración del hotel muy bien parece que estás en la selva, todo muy limpio y muy bonito. Las habitaciones bien.La comida regular en cuanto a variedad y calidad, los restaurantes temáticos de la noche igual, por ejemplo de los 8 días solo pude conseguir nutela en el desayuno 2 días… los demás nunca había, pedia y nadie la sacaba. El chico de las tortitas del desayuno daba muy mala atención. Y por ejemplo mi hijo de 3 años solo pudo entrar 1 día a la “ludoteca” que se supone que el servicio de parque con monitora era todos los días (uno de los motivos por el cual cogimos el hotel) nos decían que descansaba la chica y no estaba, Nadie la cubre? El resto del personal de animación muy bien. Y aconsejo NO coger excursiones con el hotel tuvimos MUY mala experiencia con la empresa Blue Caribe para isla contoy, y nadie se hizo responsable de nada, pese al precio tan excesivo que tienen que den tan mal servicio me parece vergonzoso, espero que no le pase a nadie más.

A wonderful hotel where to spend an extraordinary vacation with family and friends.
First of all let's talk about the place, the hotel is located on the edge of one of the most beautiful beaches of the coast, still well preserved. The setting is simply magnificent with a majestic alley as if you were crossing a small jungle with its coati! All the buildings are hidden on the garden side, the rooms are spacious and well furnished. The bedding is comfortable and the cleaning is impeccable (bravo to the teams!). The hotel has a service of 6 restaurants all excellent and with an irreproachable service, the respect of the sanitary rules are very well respected. During the day, good snacks and excellent cocktails are served as much as you like, which you can enjoy on a sublime beach or by the magnificent swimming pool. A dynamic and very committed animation team offers a lot of fun and friendly activities, in the evening they enchanted us with very professional shows! Christmas and New Year's Day the hotel has programmed unforgettable evenings, with a DJ and fireworks on the beach on December 31. We simply spent a dream vacation and recommend this hotel. Bravo to all the teams: reception, catering, cleaning, bar, technical ... they are all invested and do not spare their efforts for the service is perfect!

The staff were all amazing friendly and go above and beyond. I was very impressed 👏 with everyone.
Too many to name but Domingo in the steak house and Jessica in Guest services were exceptional as well as many others but I couldn't always see the names and have no negative feedback at all for any of our stay. I would highly recommend this resort and will definitely be back. I had a fantastic vacation. 😊 The only thing was no coffee machine in your room as I am an early riser and breakfast at 7 was very late for me. Also no late evening snack bar if you get hungry after everything closes but I still give it a 5 star. I'm leaving tomorrow rested and happy.

Servicio pésimo a pesar de agendar como servicio honeymoon y ser cliente privileget el servicio muy malo solo por ser mexicanos a los extranjeros se les atiende muy bien pero a los nacionales requieres reservar en páginas para restaurantesy seguir sus reglas absurdas, por ejemplo si reservas el spa no respetan tu horario de tu cita por dárselo a los extranjeros,adicionalmente a esto la comida en los restaurantes a la carta es muy mediocre, el room serviceno lo recomiendo pague demasiado y nunca se me trató como se merece hay habitaciones muy viejas y descuidadas la limpieza de la habitación se realiza después de las 4pm. Desde mi punto de vista solo se merece 2 estrellas.

Habitaciones cómodas y limpias, bien equipadas. Áreas comunes amenas. El personal uno que otro menos amable, pero nada fuera de lo normal. Buffet Pajarito bueno y variado, pero repetitivo. El bar abierto malísimo, todo lo hacen apresurados lo que no permite un trago de calidad. Todos los tragos artificiales, los margarita con un jarabe sabor limón, piña colada con un jarabe sabor piña, etc. La.verdad no cumplió mis expectativas. Al llegar te invitan un tour por habitaciones a las que no tienes acceso a la página web para acceder a una membresía sin siquiera conocer nada del hotel; debieran hacerla al final de la estadía para tener claro el servicio del Catalonia.

Apenas ayer regresamos de una estancia de 5 dias en Catalonia Playa Maroma y debo reconocer que nos decepcionamos mucho y no fue lo que esperabamos. Empiezo por lo bueno: Las instalaciones son hermosas. El hotel ya tiene sus años pero se esfuerzan por mantenerlo presentable y limpio. Los jardines son increibles y se nota el cuidado en sus areas comunes. Los restaurantes de especialidades fueron una excelente experiencia; tuvimos la oportunidad de cenar en el de carnes, el italiano y el japones, siendo este ultimo nuestro favorito por el show del Chef. A diferencia de otros restaurantes de especialidades de otros hoteles donde las porciones son diminutas, aqui las porciones estan bien servidas y siempre salimos satisfechos. El personal del hotel fue en su mayoria muy amable y con gran atencion al detalle. La playa es increible y tienen un buen numero de camastros, nunca tuvimos problema en conseguir lugar para disfrutar de la playa. Ahora lo malo. Hace un par de meses nos hospedamos en el hotel Riu Lupita que es un hotel tres estrellas por lo que quisimos comparar el servicio entre ambos hoteles y la verdad es que Riu Lupita siendo un hotel basico supera en muchos aspectos a Catalonia Playa Maroma que se vende como un hotel cinco estrellas. Empecemos por lo mas evidente, el buffet. Todos los dias era lo mismo, una y otra vez. Las estaciones tardaban mucho en servir alimentos y era comun ver bandejas vacias sin nadie que surtiera. Aun cuando la ocupacion era media en el hotel, las bandejas permanecian vacias. Los alimentos no eran malos, pero no habia variedad. Las bebidas por ejemplo. se tenian que pedir al mesero, no habia una estacion de bebidas y a veces solo habia un mesero para la mitad del restaurante y teniamos que estar detras de El para que nos sirviera una taza de cafe. En Riu Lupita te dejan la cafetera en tu mesa para que te sirvas tanto cafe como quieras, tambien hay estaciones de bebidas y pedirla al mesero es opcional; uno puede simplemente ir y servirse la bebida sin esperar a que te atiendan. En Riu Lupita, siendo un tres estrellas todas las mañanas servian mimosas y en Catalonia Playa Maroma ni siquiera existe esa opcion; es mas, pedi un carajillo en el bar del lobby y me dijeron que no era posible porque no tenian los ingredientes, ¿Como es posible que un hotel cinco estrellas este tan limitado en servicios tan basicos? Los snacks en la playa son buenos, pero esperar 40 minutos por una hamburguesa es demasiado especialmente porque solo hay un carrito para decenas de personas. Por otro lado, es muy molesto que cada que caminas por el sendero principal te abordan vendedores de la membresia del hotel. Entiendo que es su trabajo pero deberian de aprender a tomar un "No" como respuesta. Fue muy incomodo estar descansando en la playa y que llegaran a invitarnos a su "desayuno VIP". Al menos dos o tres veces al dia teniamos que estar rechazando de una y mil maneras a los vendedores y ellos insistian e insistian. Fue una experiencia muy desagradable. En resumen, Catalonia Playa Maroma no fue lo que esperabamos. Disfrutamos mucho de nuestras vacaciones pero definitivamente nunca regresaremos. Por lo que pagamos esperabamos un servicio de cinco estrellas y siendo honestos el hotel no pasa de cuatro estrellas.

Limpieza, 5 Comida, 3 Habitaciones, 5 El complejo está bueno. Muy natural, la pileta y los servicios están bien. Contras, tardan demasiado en entregar la comida en restaurantes y carritos. El buffet tiene cosas variadas todos los días. Los empleados son muy cordiales, tuvimos un problema con la falta de 1 prenda de vestir en nuestra habitación que no pudieron resolver, ni darnos una respuesta, tampoco se comunicaron cuando dijeron que iban a hacerlo. Adentro te intentan vender mejoras de paquete todo el tiempo. Se nota mucha la preferencia por el turista europeo o EEUU. Para la gente que llega en transporte público podrían poner a disposición carros para el traslado desde la barrera al hotel ya que es un 1,5km desde la ruta.

Staff service pretty poor. I had higher expectations for a 5 star hotel but the food at the restaurants not good or tasty and the waiters and servers were rude and impolite. The room was very clean and the housekeeping staff friendly. Also the resort is very big and well maintained with a beautiful beach and a lot of nature in the property. Unfortunately, won't be coming back again.

I’ve been here for three nights, will check out tomorrow. Granted this is my first stay at an all inclusive resort, which is normally not my style, I have to say that it’s been an excellent stay. All the staff have been very friendly and very helpful, the room has been immaculate and well kept every day, the wifi works everywhere (even on the beach), the food has been pretty good, the entire facility is clean and orderly. The staff also notice the little things. Last evening I ate at the Japanese restaurant and ordered a dragon roll. The sushi chef must have seen me scraping most of the sauce of the sushi because my second order came with half the sauce. This is a very impressive level of attention to detail for which I left a generous tip (and yes, the sushi was also excellent). I’m a big red wine drinker and the red wine included has been quite good. I’m not sure where some of the negative reviews came from, perhaps the hotel has improved markedly in just the last few weeks or perhaps some individuals’ expectations need to be more realistic. This place is definitely geared more towards families and couples, not a single guy like me, but in good conscious I had to objectively give a 5-star review for what has been an excellent stay. A special thank you to Manuel, Basilio and Ernesto (at the lobby bar), as well as to the spa, beach, and check in staff members whose names I cannot currently remember.

Currently staying in this resort. Let me tell you, if you have reservations here and have been to other resorts in the region before, CHANGE YOUR RESORT BEFORE ARRIVING! We are stay in the privileged romance room. If this is how we are getting treated I feel sorry for the people in the basic rooms. We booked in Dec 5, 2021 till Dec 19, 2021. We have not eaten in 24hrs due to the sanitary conditions of this resort. They rinse cups at the pool in standing water that sits there all day. While at the buffet yesterday I found mouse droppings on our table. The food is horrible whether at one of the restaurants or the buffet. Customer service does NOT exist here. We usually stay at the Grand Sunset Princess which is just a short distance from this resort. While the Princess has its short comings the customer service is second to none. We have asked 5 times to have our fridge replaced and have been told there is nothing wrong with the one we have. This fridge doesn't cool or keep anything cold. In my opinion the fridge is closer to a microwave than cooler/fridge. We were told they were going to send us to another resort yesterday. Today, the story has changed. We are here celebrating our anniversary and my wife's Birthday (Dec 8). It definitely will be an unforgettable vacation... We are by far picky people, but when it comes to health protocols especially with Covid this is not acceptable. They can say they follow health guidelines and are in compliance all they want.Please people for your safety and the safety of your family, please do NOT stay here. Please read all the other negative reviews. Those reviews are accurate. While in Playa a couple days ago even the locals said that this resort is not good. The positives to staying here, the beach is gorgeous...9 Days left. This is worse than prison.... My number one concern is all the MAJOR electrical deficiencies in the property. There are a lot of exposed electrical connections that are just taped. (See pics). My nice got shocked by stepping on a wire. I brought it up to management’s attention and nothing was done.BE AWARE of where you step.Also, there’s lots of cracks in buildings.The hotel is severely understaffed and overworked.Long waits for service at the pool, the beach and restaurants. They received miserable wages. Please tip them if you can.There lots of roof water leaks in the lobby when it rains.There’s water everywhere and it creates a slipping hazard.There are two abandoned hotels to the left of Catalonia.Beaches are polluted with plastic and garbage.No one takes care of these hotels. They are some squatters maybe homeless.The water at the pool always looked milky.We paid for the “privilege” package. Which will put you closer to the pool/beach area. The downside of that is that you can hear everything is happening at the pool. Difficult to take naps being so close to that area.Definitely not all the glamour the hotel advertises online.

First time staying at Catalonia Playa Maroma. Staff was extremely helpful and rooms were great!! The place is an older resort but don't let that fool you!! Yes they could do some minor updates but I didn't go on vacation to judge what needed updates. Clean facilities, great staff from the bottom to the top, and a nice quiet secluded beach!!! Only two thing I didn't like about the whole place was the driveway into the resort needs some pot holes filled and they only had one bar open after 11. Other than that my experience at this resort was exceptional! I'll be back for another holiday! P.s. this place seems to draw a more mature crowd which provides a much more relaxing experience.

Mis expectativas muy buena planeación con todo separado toda la gente muy amable gran limpieza y magníficas instalaciones el tener el manglar integrado te conecta con esa naturaleza tan olvidada por nosotros los humanos quiero hacer unas felicitaciones especiales al gerente Carlos del restaurant italiano nos trató excelentísimo mejorando nuestros platillo con su toque personal y muy profesional al siguiente día nos recomendó con el chef Jorge quien también nos dio sus platillo como un manjar para reyes y el servicio lindisimo de Leticia super sensacional jamás me había sentido tan consentido en la vida y la verdad creo tener una pata hueca por todo lo que comimos delicioso y con ese toque de servicio y simpatía por el personal que nos atendió. DIOS Los bendiga son unos ángeles y que si volvería a venir? Segurisimo es mas no me quisiera ir!!! Un lugar de 10 super recomendable pues rompe con lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver y en el teatro los bailables y shows excelentes grandes bailarines jóvenes que hay que segur apoyando y fomentando felicidades a todo este gran equipo ojala hubiera muchos como ustedes!!!! 🙏

Worst resort ever. Believe me when I tell you I’m trying to save you from a terrible experience. The good reviews are fake or from people who never went to a real, good all-inclusive resort. There’s no food here (2-3 options of such bad food), maybe 60-80 beach chairs for all guests (read not even close to enough), no beach towels after 2-3pm, long lines for drinks and snacks (very limited), only 4 restaurants (one closed most days), no appointments for restaurants - you have to wait up to 2 hours to get seated. Stay away from this disaster. I hope you heed this advice.

Me gustó.!!! 😁 Desde la llegada nos recibieron muy amable, nos hacen llenar un formulario de sanidad, al realizar el check in te ofrecen una bebida de bienvenida, cae muy bien después de el viaje. Las habitaciones muy bien, limpias y con todo lo que necesitas para pasarlo muy cómodo. La piscina cuenta con varios niveles de profundidad y esta muy bien cuidada. El buffet (los pajaritos) el lugar para desayunar, comer y cenar, desde hot cakes, pizza, sushi, entre muchas más. Desafortunadamente no pude cenar en alguno de los restaurantes ya qué no existen las reservaciónes, así como llegan se atienden. Cerca de la piscina se encuentran puestos de snacks como hamburguesas, hotdog, tacos, crepas y más. En resumen, tuve una buena estancia y espero volver.!!!

My husband, 13 month old daughter and I booked to stay here for 5 days. This was a huge mistake. When we arrived, our room wasn’t ready. But not a big deal; we went and tried to find somewhere to eat for lunch.
We went to the buffet. I have NEVER seen a worse buffet at an all inclusive resort. Not to mention this is supposed to be a highly rated resort…..There was a very limited selection, most stuff was gone & not refilled, and the meat you had to wait in a huge line. The cook making the meat, was using the SAME tongs to touch raw chicken/fish/pork, to cook the meat and then to serve the meat on your plate when it was “done”. We ended up choosing not to eat any of it. We only were able to eat rice and give my poor daughter some noodles.
Next, we are finally settled. We go enjoy the pool and things are looking up a bit. But then we go to dinner at the Grill. Food was mediocre, I got my daughter a plain burger to eat. I crumbled it up for her. And she ate it without hesitation.
I am now writing this review as I woke up to my 13 month old throwing up in her pack n play. And multiple times after that. My husband and I are currently taking turns letting her sleep on us. It was everything from dinner. I am SO upset with the lack of health concern and the poor preparation of food here.
We will NEVER book at this hotel again. This has been a nightmare and we are all scared to eat any foods here now. I first hand saw how mishandled the meat was. DO NOT COME HERE, especially with your little ones.

Every day we have problems with the room key(it’s a card), every time they told us not to put it close to the phone, even if we told them the card were only in our bag, far away from the phone..nobody checked why the cards still block itself, after a couple of complains.The resort is beautiful, clean, good atmosphere, but as soon as they can’t fix a problem after an every day complain, it is not worth more than 1 star.

4.5 due to kids club being closed mid October 2021.We stayed at PDC 5th street hotel and got to know the beaches in that area for 2 nights. Then we paid a 400mxn cab ride to get to this hotel. What a sharp contrast! PDC is definitely for the brave and adventurous, this place is for family and to be pampered.This being my first 5 star hotel all inclusive experience, I don't have any to compare but, I must state this place doesn't deserves that title from my 4 night stay. The facilities looked fine at reception but the inner sanctum is in need of minor maintenance: broken tiles, vegetation pruning, washed out signs, crackling speakers. Gripe. I hope they improve these details. Could be they may be recovering from the impact covid did to tourism and can soon fund this.The staff are extremely dedicated hard working folks, amicable, customer first . Kudos to each and every area from cleaning staff (thank you "Carmen" for our room clean), bus boys, to the evening manager "Asis?" who speaks 14 languages and seems to understand every corner of his domain and the customers he serves. Everyone's efforts shows and it's a must to greet staff with proper "buen@s _(dias, tardes, noches)_"to reveal their true smiles that brighten everyone's day.Were there fresh coconut drinks offered? Never had a chance to truly relax during pool baby sit time since kids club was out of order arising from Covid concerns. Understandable. Can't say this was false advertising since there are notices online stating services may be unavailable during covid, but this was what made any gripes tagged as "non-issue" to "oh well, less adult time". Still Im a firm believer that no one should take care of kids better than parents do still, would of made the difference to make this a perfect stay.On the first day we discovered that the pool can get suddenly deep and children can easily fall in if left unattended, so a clear cautionary warning would be nice somewhere in the pool area. Perhaps safety ropes to distinguish the deeper areas? We found out and kept our 5yo in the jacuzzi enclosure since it's wading deep and was easier to monitor, though the benches near the jacuzzi were always occupied. People left items on them to reserve it and wander off to other activities, gripe.The beach waves were stronger than the city, was told our area funneled stronger currents, so not so great for kids. For adults it was good, just floating a while and getting ocean elixir in the pores revitalizes like nothing else. The sand was white and shady palm trees with snooze benches to idle looked great. I think there was a drink waiter, but didn't get a chance to lounge at the beach much. We mostly baby sat my kid in the pool and rotated with the wife for solo beach time.The a-la-carte (ALC) dining was the crown jewel of my stay here, they are very clean and elegant. The cuisine was exquisitely delicious and paired fantastically with wine, again the staff were privy to our every needs and we felt in the lap of luxury. Kudos to our waiters "Antonio", "Jorge" thank you so much for making the difference with your commendable efforts.Overall we had a great time! my kid was enamored with the coatis running around with their cute faces, him trying to pet the baby ones. The rooms were air conditioned fresh with comfy beds and all the services you need. The buffet has great range of choices really can't ask for more (gripe with the morning buffet, the unnecessary long line for the made-to-order omelette, they should open 2 grills to reduce the wait time). Once I tried the ALC dining, I ate less at the morning buffet to try more items at the ALC options in the evening, making the value proposition simply worth every penny.Any aforementioned nitpicks are just that, minor details. The weather was fine, ocean was warm, upbeat service folks, outstanding food, comfy fresh beds, priced right...I can't wait to return to greet with warmth my new extended familia at the beach!

We've been here for a week and this is our last night here. I left a ⭐⭐⭐ review on our second day here but now I'm changing it to ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. The main reason we would come back to Catalina is the staff, they're all very friendly, helpful and welcoming especially our housekeeper Beatriz who did a great job every time. The buffet was good for breakfast and ok for lunch or dinner. The night restaurants were very good but the (long pants requirement for men was not enforced) which is fine with me. The beach is great. I can't review alcoholic beverages because we don't drink. The only thing we didn't like is Air Conditioner in the room (4312) because it doesn't really cool enough. Overall we're happy with the experience and we'll be back again.
Please disregard my 3 ⭐ review that I left 5 days ago before we experienced everything here.

Bom hotel para relaxar em família, os quartos estão corretos, as piscinas são enormes e de águaquente, com bar dentro para beber e relaxar na água. Os jardins estão muito bem cuidados, podemos ver esquilos, iguanas, macacose principalmente coatis, que estão por todo o lado :) A praia esta cheia de hamacs e cadeiras, é limpa todos os dias de manhã para remover o sargaço. Quanto à comida, tem uma enorme variedade de restaurantes onde a comida é muito bem confeccionada e muito variada. O restaurante love tem uma vista divinal sobre as águas cristalinas, os pratos são deliciosos e com muito requinte. Os animadores são muito atenciosos e os espetáculos à noite são muito bons. O único senão, é a antipatia e indisponibilidade de alguns funcionários, e a falta de babyssiting para que os pais também possam usufruir de umas horas a dois. No entanto, a simpatia de outros funcionários é tanta e os serviços são tão bons, que nos faz esquecer os pontos negativos.

Es increíble que en México no tengan salsa en el restaurante Mexicano. El servicio de ciertos meseros deja mucho que desear. 3n ninguna zona del hotel tiene música. No representa lo que es México en gastronomía ni en nada. Les doy 3 estrellas por que la gente y algunos meseros amables y atentos.

Very rough start. Was assigned a room with people already in it and walked in on them changing. AC in the rooms is okay at best. If you want to go to a place to just drink and swim this is it. You can pay to go on adventures outside but resort itself is meh. Very few food choices and unless you are a member you're even more limited unless it's the weekend.

We had rough start here. Its our honeymoon and they tried to get us a better room but ended up being a room already taken and we walked in on them. 2nd room the A/C was broken. 3rd room everything was fine except it was a double bed and that's all they had left. Also we had to get onto the staff 3times to put blankets and sheets on the bed so we could sleep. By 8pm we finally had a decent room ready for us and we had been there since 1:30. This one hotel staff Orlando helped out by upgrading our bracelet and our membership for the trouble. If it weren't for that we would've asked to cancel our stay. Other than that and there's hardly any A/C anywhere on the resort it's not terrible. Some of the food places don't stay open though throughout the week so it's like playing guess what's open. All in all we probably wouldn't go here again.

Las dos estrellas son por el servicio del hotel, aunque la mayoría son muy amables, nos toco algunos meseros groseros y déspotas.En hotel en general no supera expectativas. Las habitaciones no tienen WiFi, solo áreas comunes. No abren todos los restaurantes y el "todo incluido" no es todo incluido. Tienes que pagar por algunos servicios. No tiene espectáculos nocturnos. El baño de la habitacion está deteriorado.

Stayed 7 nights, Sept. 11 - 18. We booked through Cheap Caribbean and got such a great deal so it is hard to complain, there is nothing wrong with this resort, overall it is nice and we had a great time.
Pros: Room was very nice and clean, housekeeping did well, Food was great at all the restaurants and buffet. the grounds were clean, our room (6000 bldg.) was closest to the pool and beach. The pool was nice and had some activities, the beach was nice with palm trees, chairs and drink service.
Cons: A/C didn't seem to work well in the room and restaurants, it felt cool when coming in from 88 (29) but was probably 78 (24) in the room. comfortable to sleep in with the fan on and air. Refrigerator doesn't cool at all. Ice machines never had ice. Grounds could have been better kept. Restaurants were open only on certain days, they would alternate between them , having 3 out of 5 open a night. Steak House (Grill) was only open Saturday and Wednesdays and would have long lines, we never got to eat there; don't allow reservations. Coffee bar never opened while we were there. I am a morning person so, breakfast starts at 7am could be earlier. lunch buffet at noon, could be earlier.
Of the 4 all -inclusive resorts we have stayed at now, (2 Catalonia's) this would rank #4 but overall it was a nice place for what we paid and we would recommend.

Existe alguns pontos a melhorar para as 5 estrelas como por exemplo:1- A animação à noite começa muito cedo no teatro ( as 8h da noite está quase tudo a jantar ) 2- Os Restaurantes temáticos tem pouca criatividade. 3- Como um país de frutas excelentes tem pouca variedade no hotel (não vi uma água de côco, manga...) 4- A entrada do hotel de 5 estrelas fica um pouco desagradável com um restaurante de hamburgueres à entrada e tambem nessa zona verifica-se um pouco de degradação.Na minha opinião acho que estes pontos seriam fáceis de resolver, e em comparação a alguns hoteis na mesma zona ficariam a ganhar, pois o hotel tem staff fantástico, muito limpo e qualquer problema a receção está sempre pronta a ajudar... Obrigado

Vim de lua de mel..atribuiram nos um quarto com duas camas. Solicitamos troca de quarto nunca nos deram..quando casais que conheçemos trocaram por coisas menores..não recebemos welcome drink nem cortesia de quarto de lua de mel..chocolates e champanhe que outros casais receberam..animaçao razoável..simpaticos.limpeza simpático..mas em 7 dias apanhei 4 baratas mt grandes..e ósgas no tecto..repetir..não..paisagem bonita com animais bonitos nos jardins e arvores do hotel..água das praias cheias de algas

The worst 4 star hotel I EVER booked! So many incident in such a short period. It started with the food selection and drinks being bland and watered down. I never had to add so much salt in order for the food to taste somewhat manageable to eat. The lunch and dinner section was down right disrespectful. I wish I made reservation for restaurants outside the resort. The decent restaurant they had you have to pay $15pp if you are not a exclusive member. I waited a hour to go to the grill house and everyone after me was seated first, I complained to management and was told it was no big deal. I complained to front desk and they was not eager to help at all. You pay for what you get l wish I would’ve booked another resort. I stayed with the same brand in the Dominican Republic and was satisfied, but after this I will not book with them again. Our room flooded with water which someone has slipped and nothing was done to resolved the issue. we was told they was booked at 100% capacity but offered another room to us the last night by this time we didn’t care we was ready to go! We was on the 3 rd floor and they have NO elevators so we didn’t want to move anything unless it was to the airport to leave this monstrosity of a hotel. Never Again

We love the Catalonia resorts this will be out 3rd time at a Catalonia and our second time at Maroma. We booked the privileged ones romance which includes a jacuzzi. When we got to the resort this time our jacuzzi didn’t work. We walked to the front and asked if it could get fixed. Nothing but ever happened. We asked two more times and nothing happened. We went to Toscana for dinner the second night we were here and I ordered the Beef my plate was nothing but fat and bones. It was one disappointment after another and we are so sad. We will not be back. We are good tippers. We gave a waiter a $20 he brought us our drinks and we never saw him again. Guest services was not there so that we could schedule our Covid tests. Understand if you book this resort that you will have more stress than relaxation. We wouldn’t be so disappointed if the last time we were here everything was perfect and the customer service was on point. Now the customer service is something to be desired

Front desk hangs up on you when they are having trouble instead of trying to find a solution.Guest Services never answers the phone.Front desk even gave me the wrong email address (I think on purpose) just to get me off the phone.We have a stay scheduled in this month and desperately need to speak to someone about some special requests to celebrate my friends birthday.Nothing hard.Pretty simple.But can't get anyone on the phone.I have spoke to the same front desk person 10 times.He just keeps hanging up on me each time he says he needs "one minute".I have been sweet as pie so it is crazy to get this kind of treatment and we have not even arrived yet.

Overall we had a good vacation. I’m not a picky person, this resort was a good price for my family of 4 with two rooms. We upgraded to privileged, and if we hadn’t, I don’t think my stepdaughter would have stayed in their room. The premium rooms are not that nice. We had great rooms with jacuzzis in the privileged! The privileged restaurant is good but we only went one time cuz they never seemed to be open when we wanted to eat there. The buffet was surprisingly good! The Japanese was so good. The Italian eh not so much. Nothing else was open while we were there. The hotel is definitely showing signs of neglect. The seaweed is really bad, I know it’s this time of year but it seemed like they didn’t even try and therefore it created a bad smell throughout the whole trip. The pool showed signs of wear and the furniture wasnt looking too hot. Although, like I said , we’re not picky so we had an overall great time. Would I stay again? Eh probably not, unless the price was right.

Hotel muy agradable con una calidaden el servicio y las comidas bastante altas. Existe bastante variedad en las diferentes opciones, incluso existe una creperie. El hotel funciona a medio gas por el tema Covid y eso se nota en algunas cuestiones como por ejemplo en horas punta las colas para entrar en el buffet o la tardanza y el descontrol en servir en los restaurantes a carta. La animación no resulta cargante y después de 14 dias puedo calificarla como entretenida. Quizás no le doy un 5 por que aunque la habitación era muy amplia... era un poco vieja. Me parece algo singular y agradable el mantenimiento dentro de las instalaciones de la reservas de animales Koatis Monos etc... totalmente integrados en la estructura del Hotel. La playa sin duda de las mas bonitas siempre y cuando este despejada de algas... Tuvimos una estancia muy agradable.

We stayed here for 5 nights and overall had a great time. The resort is extremely COVID friendly, mask must be worn at all times for entry into restaurants and all staff members are wearing a mask. The pool and beach were beautiful and clean, they have kayaking included. The buffet was good, restaurants were also good but would’ve appreciated more than two being open per night. Service can be a bit slow around lunchtime when trying to find something to eat near the pool. Bartenders at the pool bar, Jose and Angel were great and accommodating to guests. Guest services was also helpful with planning services for birthdays or other occasions. We utilized the gym by reserving a time slot and it was very clean. Loved seeing some wildlife on this trip also. Wished the nighttime entertainment was scheduled later to accommodate timing for dinner, we only got to see one show. Make sure you make reservations at restaurants and for excursions there’s a friendly gentleman named Armando that gave us great deals. WiFi here is amazing. Felt very safe and I would recommend this resort.

No pongo menos estrellas porque no se puede. Si estás pensando en alojarte en este hotel, no vayas. Nada recomendable. Nos alojamos varias noches en el hotel como viaje de luna de miel. Al hacer la reserva avisamos que era nuestro viaje de luna de miel y ni si quiera tuvieron un detalle con nosotros, lamentable. El hotel y las habitaciones son antiguas, no hay ascensor para subir a las habitaciones, algo que nos dejó asombrados ya que nunca habíamos visto algo así y menos siendo un hotel de cinco estrellas. Durante nuestra estancia estuvimos todos los días subiendo a una tercera planta a pie. El buffet del hotel tiene que mejorar mucho, muy poca cantidad de comida y poca elección de alimentos para ser un hotel de estas características. Tiene varios restaurantes el hotel y solo abre uno por las noches, dependiendo del día de la semana abre uno distinto, lo que ocasiona que tengas que esperar dos horas para cenar o que directamente no cenes en el restaurante porque no se pueden hacer reservas con antelación y la gente se acumula. No tienen aire acondicionado puesto en los restaurantes, excepto en el buffet…..Personal de recepción antipático y amargado. Poquísimas tumbonas en la piscina, no hay apenas tumbonas para tanta gente. La playa llena de sargazo , no pudimos bañarnos Ni un día en ella porque era imposible. Hay hoteles muchísimo mejores que este. Un horror, nos lo esperábamos mucho mejor

La austeridad es la palabra que podría describir a este complejo, entre sus habitaciones viejas y descuidadas siendo la habitación básica... el personal trabajaba como podía y con lo que tenía, pero era evidente la falta de capacitación para la atención adecuada al cliente. La falta de eficiencia en sus procesos mostraba lentitud en cada restaurante y bar del lugar, resaltando la falta de un adecuado manual de procesos. Es cierto, cumple el complejo como habitación, comida variada y bebida alcohólicas y no alcohólicas siendo un todo incluido, pero a menos que tengas un upgrade en "privilege", no tendrás un descanso reconfortante, ni tendrás comida más agradable. El "restaurante" mexicano ofrece "tacos" de pollo, res dura, y al pastor, un estereotipo muy marcado sobre la "comida mexicana" en un complejo español en la Riviera Maya. El hotel es más para las personas que cruzan Europa y viajan a la Riviera, un hotel familiero donde probablemente cultiven una idea equivocada de la cultura y comida mexicana. La playa es lo más valioso del hotel, el mar aun mantiene su aspecto y aroma post sargazo, pero la arena blanca ayuda mucho a enfocarte y no querer irte al primer día de la estancia. Si buscas un hotel de paso, donde no tienes una clara idea o experiencia de un resort 5 estrellas all inclusive, si no importa lo que comas ni en qué condiciones duermas... es decir, si buscas un hotel de paso con playa hermosa y comida barata, este es el complejo perfecto.

We bought a package through Zenhotels for Catalonia Playa Maroma for 2 adults and 2 children ages 13 and 14. We applied their ages at time of booking. We arrived with only 1 of our kids who is 13. The hotel insisted that we had to pay an additional amount exceeding $100 per day because our son wasn’t a baby. We went around and around with them about the booking. We had to explain the situation to at least 5 different people with no resolution. They were aggressive and unhelpful. When we got to our room the safe didn’t work and the patio sliding door wouldn’t lock. There was also a large cockroach next to the bed. We had to carry our valuables with us. Their website says that there are 4 restaurants but when we arrived they told us that there would only be a buffet offered. We left after the 1st night after spending the next morning with the sickening job of trying to get resolution again. The resort has denied any responsibility and has refused to give us our money back for the following 3 nights. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It looked neglected and uncared for and the front desk staff, specifically naming Cesar and the supervisor were extremely rude and even yelled at us to basically take it or leave it. It felt like they thought they had us over a barrel and that we just had to pay more money. When we checked out we asked for a receipt that we were leaving 3 days early and they refused to give us one We just took a picture of the form that we had to fill out for the reason we were leaving. It felt like we were being being bullied and robbed. Absolutely dishonest. Truly disappointed. We have always had wonderful experiences in Mexico but this left a terrible taste in our mouths. We later found out through a friend who works in the area that the hotel is only paying their staff half wages. Felt like the ugly side of desperation all around. Not a great way to spend a vacation.

Nada recomendable. La atención según llegas es horrible. Me tuvieron que cambiar 3 veces de habitación. La primera inundada, la segunda era la de al lado con lo cual había un olor a humedad inaguantable. Los restaurantes fatal. A las 20:39 ya no hay sitio para cenar en el único temático que abren cada noche. Hay que conformarse con el de los pajaritos que deja mucho que desear. El bloved no está mal pero siempre tienen la misma carta. En recepción son extremadamente lentos y como mucho hay dos atendiendo con lo cual cada vez que hay que consultar algo hay que esperar al menos 40 minutos. Se supone que tenía derecho a irme más tarde y ahora me dicen que depende de la disponibilidad. Poco serios.

Hotel bonito, pésimo servicio de restaurantes, no se hacen reservaciones previas y hay que formarse hasta 1 Hora y media si es que alcanzas lugar. Pero a final de cuentas hacen reserva a quien ellos quieren. Es una discriminación!!! Nunca pude tener un camastro por que no hay suficiente lugar en la zona de alberca, que por cierto no tiene un lugar con sombra para disfrutar el sol. Las instalaciones son muy lindas, pero pésima planeacion de los servicios y si deberían de poner una alberca para adultos, todo el día hay actividades y no hay un lugar lindo donde estar en la alberca sin escuchar tanto ruido y cubrirse del sol.

Location is good, modern style rooms (shower room is a little be small), one regular buffet restaurant for breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. No need reservation for special restaurant, they open just every day for first come first served. 4 Start because check in is too slow, Hamburgers, hot dogs, crepes are low quality. Some People work hard if you provide us tips other wise they do not offer nothing to drink on the pool. Hotel needs more real party with a real guys.

Decepcionante hotelAl llegar al hotel la atención fue muy mala, muy demorado el check in, tardan al menos 40 minutos si es que tienes suerte. Hay un señor mexicano alto y gordo que atiende en algunos turnos enla recepción y no tiene para nada actitud de servicio, te atiende muy mal, contesta regañándote y haciendo mala cara.El segundo día me robaron mis sandalias en un pequeño descuido en la playa. En esta zona el marestá demasiado llena de sargazo, de hecho se forman montañas a tu vista y no se puede ingresar al mar.Las habitaciones están lejos de la zona del mar, es muy encerrado y lejos para llegar desde cualquier parte del hotel. Nos toco un piso 3 no tienen ascensor y es complicado bajar las maletas en check out.La comida aunque en general estuvo bien es muy normal, solo recomiendo el restaurante japonés, lo demás muy corriente.Dicen que hay shows pero no es cierto son actividades de recreación en un teatro pequeño en el que NO exigen medidas de distanciamiento y bioseguridad como uso de tapabocas.Muy costoso para lo que recibes. No lo recomiendo y nunca volveré

El servicio es una Basura, puede ser que no esperaban tanta gente despues del covid, per si no estas listo no abras, o abre con menos gente. La comida fria y poca, de 4 dias, 3 se les acabo en el restaurant pricnipal (buffete) 1 -1/2 horas antes de cerrar. en la alberca , solo un puesto de comida abierto. y para acabar, aunque esto no es culpa del resort el sargazo en la playa.NO VALE LA PENA, nunca mas repetire en un hotel de Catalonia.

First the good... The rooms are really very nice & the rain shower head in our room was fantastic. The staff at the pool and the pool itself was excellent. The girls running the activities were second to none! I would give them 5 stars.
Now for the bad...the beach was terrible it was loaded with seaweed and the odor from there was disgusting. The food was pretty bad. The people we went with & my wife and I were very disappointed with the food and the restaurants at the resort. A poor selection. My friend and I are both handicapped and it was extremely difficult to go to the buffet for meals we had to rent a electric scooter for over $300 for 6 nights. The resort is not very accommodating. All in all we had a nice time but I would not go back to this resort. If I had to guess, I think it was about 200 meters walk from the main building to the pool. I didn't realize how much walking it would be when we booked this. And if you are afraid of animals, this is not the place for you!

Estive 15 dias no hotel, em junho 2021. A comida é muito ruim, sou vegetariana, nao tem opcao nenhuma. Nos restaurantes a la carte, os chefs só sabem fazer macarrão para quem não carne. A fila para o a la carte começa às 18:00, absurdo jantar às 18. Se for mais tarde tem fila de espera de 2hs. Por quê não dão opcao de reserva?? A opçao all inclusive é péssima. Comida na piscina é hot dog, hamburguer ou crepe. Não tem opção de comida saudavel no hotel. Falta no all inclusive frutas, yogurte, sanduiche, cafe, petiscos na piscina. Fraquerrimo. Serviço all inclusive uma enganação e termina às 17. A internet no meu quarto não funcionava. Nao tem guarda-chuva nos quartos para se locomover pelo hotel. Os funcionarios tratam os brasileiros muito mal e o serviço nos restaurantes é péssimo e devagar. Esperava muito mais desse hotel, pela propaganda na internet e pelo preço.

The beach is nice, although a lot of sea weed! Still very nice and relaxing; we brought a hammock and hung it up right on the beach. The food is very nice with many options ranging from a buffet to Japanese Hibachi and other food! All drinks are very refreshing , and if you have privileged status you can order room service 24/7. All workers are very nice. Would definitely recommend for a nice all inclusive getaway!

Another year and another awesome time. Have yet to experience any issue that would prevent us from returning.
Is there sea weed on the beach. Sure is. But look up and down the beach and every single resort had the same issue. I enjoyed sitting by the pool better anyways.
Long waits for the theme restaurants? Yeah there was a few. No big deal. Plan accordingly. I actually enjoyed the buffet this year.
Long wait for drinks? I never waited longer than a few minutes for a drink at any of the bars. Weekend parties were fun, but when you have that many people in a smaller area a long wait is expected.
Entertainment was good. They try their best. I found the game night pretty hilarious. Pool bingo, the crazy games, trivia and pool volleyball were always fun.
Our room(6317) was perfect, again. Ac worked great, good views especially at night when the sun was setting. We had 2 issues with the toilet button not working, but maintenance was there quickly and was able to fix the problem. Price was a good deal as well
Marcos at the buffet, Javier at the pool and beach bar, Adrianna at the pool bar and Beatrice our housekeeper deserve a special THANK YOU. All of the hard work they did to make our vacation enjoyable was very appreciated.
To the workers that were not named, Thank you for everything you did for us as well.

room was new and clean.
large pool and beautiful beach.
kids club was closed , but big thank you for open play ground.
food (buffet) was not bad, my 5yo daughter wasn’t hungry all week. also they have food trucks near pool (tacos and hotdogs) animation on Saturday was great,specially aerial gymnast was amazing..we enjoyed it.
one thing that I don’t like that there is no special space for smoking people, even if it’s electronic cigarettes( please think about it, why kids have to smell it?!
rest of it was perfect for our family.
will definitely recommend this hotel and hope to come back soon

Adorei a experiência... Já estive outras vezes no México em outros hotéis mas este é para repetir... É lindo,muito limpo, a comida é muito boa e a praia é maravilhosa... E não posso esquecer os funcionários todos muito simpáticos e prestáveis

Depois da estadia com a minha família na semana do Natal, tenho a dizer que foi a equipa mais simpática e motivada de todos os hotéis por onde já passei. Estiveram sempre prontos a servir todos os hóspedes com simpatia, profissionalismo e um sorriso. A arquitetura dos alojamentos é bonita e com alguns traços do tradicional mexicano. A praia é fantástica, areia branca e fina com água cristalina. Apostava em colocar uns corais artificiais para criar alguma atratividade subaquática. A comida do buffet é de ótima qualidade e variedade. Têm imensos prémios que conquistaram pela preocupação ecológica e por todo ecossistema de fauna e flora que criaram naquele espaço.Parabéns Catalonia! São um bom exemplo do que deve ser um hotel

Hotel para vir em família. Não aconselho vir para pegada de Cancún. Apenas para relaxar. Não tem manobrista na recepção. Falta bebida no bar principal e o banheiro tinha vazamento. Fiz upload do vídeo do banheiro para mostrar. Check out horrível. Não te ajudam com a bagagem em nenhum momento.
